DAY 1: Arrive Siem Reap & welcome dinner (B,D)

Upon arrival, please look out for the Travel Asia welcome sign at the arrivals gate. We will transfer you to your hotel, where you can take your time and relax by the pool or venture out for your first exploration of this ancient city.

In the early evening, your guide will find you in the hotel reception area for a quick briefing. Then it’s time to enjoy the authentic and creative Cambodian cuisine with a cultural show. Overnight in Siem Reap.

DAY 2: Angkor Sunrise Discovery (B)

Today, we start the tour at dawn and take a short transfer to Angkor Wat in time to see the sunrise. Your guide will take you to the best spots to watch the colorful sunrise. Then, go through the Angkor Central complex and learn about the history and symbolism of Angkor Wat.

Once you have discovered Angkor Wat and enjoy a breakfast, just outside the temple area in peaceful surroundings. Afterward, proceed with the bike tour down the trails behind Angkor Park. Follow tracks that take you through small villages, and see how the locals go about their daily lives.

You will continue to discover other sites such as Angkor Thom, Bayon Temple and other less-known temples through the jungle trails. Then, cycle to Ta Prohm temple which is unique in that it has been left largely as it was found- overgrown by jungle trees and vines, with many parts of the temple crumbled to the ground. End your day by enjoying lunch with a large spread of Cambodian dishes beside the ancient reservoir of Srah Srang. Overnight in Siem Reap.

DAY 3: Cycle to Banteay Srei & Banteay Samrei temple (B)

Today, our bike tour takes us on unpaved roads through rural villages. We cycle on a flat road to the temple of Banteay Samre. From there it goes back on unpaved roads through attractive villages, along with rice fields, and to the temple of Banteay Srei, which is located outside the actual temple city and is made of pink sandstone.

The roads are peaceful, narrow, and very pretty all the way to Bantey Srei. There are plenty of beautiful and real country views to see along the way as you cycle past the local markets, schools, villages, and Buddhist temples. Taking a water break under the shade of the tree before we reach Bantey Srei, which is known as the Citadel of Women, this red sandstone temple is one of Angkor’s most significant structures as its walls are decorated with elaborate carvings, which have been preserved remarkably well. Overnight in Siem Reap

DAY 4: Trek through to the National Park of Kulen mountain (B)

Depart early in the morning by a private air-conditioned vehicle from your hotel to Kulen Mountain. The Kulen Mountain range rises from the plains 50 km north of Siem Reap.

On arrival, we’ll trek up the mountain slope, visit the natural water spring from the Buddha’s foot and enjoy the panoramic view, then trek through the thick forest. Enjoy the magnificent waterfall of Kulen Mountain. After that, you will visit the Hindu carving of Kulen’s riverbed where most Khmer people believe is a sacred place on the mountain.

After a refreshing dip in the water and a bite to eat, we trek through fantastic undulating single track, made up mostly of walking trails, guided by a ranger from the National Park. Then, you will hike through the jungle past remote villages and see life-sized stone elephants standing serenely at Srah Damrei. We’ll also visit Cambodia’s largest reclining Buddha before heading to the 20-meter high Kulen Waterfall, where we can enjoy a refreshing dip before returning to town. Overnight in Siem Rea.

DAY 5: Cycle the floating village & Kayaking Mekchrey, farewell dinner (B,D)

Today you will head toward the vast wetlands on the edge of Asia’s largest freshwater lake, Tonle Sap. This outdoor adventure will take you on the backroads of Siem Reap in order to explore the local life, culture, and great landscape. You will have a beautiful ride through rice paddies and small villages, with locals greeting us as we cycle by.

Afterwards, visit the village that builds their houses on stilts, often up to ten meter high. The entire village floats and moves with the receding or increasing waters, thereby continually shifting its location throughout the seasons. You will have the opportunity to kayak through the gently lapping waters of the village to witness and learn about the daily lifestyle of the local inhabitants. In the high water season, we’ll also be able to paddle through the surrounding mangrove swamps and flooded forests. You will return back to the city by private vehicle in the evening. Enjoy farewell dinner. Overnight in Siem Reap.

    DAY 6: Siem Rap - Departure (B)

Today is free at leisure in Siem Reap. Relax by your hotel pool or venture out to explore the markets or boutique shops, cafes and restaurants until it’s time to transfer to the airport for your outbound flight. Shall you wish to remain in Siem Reap or discover Cambodia further, our local team can assist with any travel advice.

    Additional Information

    HEALTH AND SAFETY

Please be aware that the proper medical facilities are inadequate in Cambodia. Rural areas have few, if any, pharmacies and hospitals so make sure you travel with a full supply of any prescribed medicine you take. If you need medical assistance, we recommend Royal Angkor International Hospital in Siem Reap, (Tel: 063761888) and International SOS Medical & Dental Clinic in Phnom Penh (Tel: 023216911). Each traveler is responsible for his or her own health. First and foremost, make sure that you have travel insurance for your trip. You should also consult your doctor or local travel clinic for the latest information and advice on travelling to Cambodia before departure.
Please note: If you have a medical condition or allergy which requires particular attention, carry a doctor’s letter with you that describes the nature of the condition and treatment needed. We also recommend you pack a medical kit, including paracetamol and a diarrhea remedy.

    VACCINATIONS

There are many vaccinations needed when travelling to this part of the world. It is important you ensure you have adequate protection against disease. Book an appointment with your doctor or travel clinic, no less than two months before your departure.

    TRAVEL INSURANCE

Our products DO NOT include Travel Insurance. Travel insurance is not included in our tours, cruises, day tours, private tours, group tours, transfers, and any of our packages.
For your protection, we strongly recommend that you purchase comprehensive travel insurance for your travel arrangements (without limitation) that include coverage for medical expenses, loss of luggage, cruise, land content and airfare charges that may occur.
You need to provide us your Travel Insurance details upon booking, or at least before 30 days prior to your departure.
If you do not have travel insurance prior to your departure, we retain the rights to refuse boarding/joining our tours or cruises. We might refund / provide travel credits for you, less any unrecoverable fees including but not limited to admin fees, visas fees, other suppliers’ cancellation fees. We won’t be held liable for any costs associated with this matter.

    CULTURE & CUSTOMS

    Etiquette and cultural differences
Experiencing different cultures is one of the joys of travelling and it is important that these differences are respected. Cambodia has cultural norms and taboos which we encourage visitors to understand and abide by.
    • Try not to get angry. Showing any frustrations or annoyances by shouting or becoming abusive is extremely impolite and it is unlikely to achieve a positive outcome. The Khmer’s don’t like to ‘lose face’.
    • Refrain from public displays of affection, they are considered offensive. It is extremely rare to see couples holding hands. However, it is quite common for friends of the same sex.
    • It is polite to remove your shoes before entering a house – look for shoes at the front door as a clue.
    • Cambodians greet each other with a slight bow and a prayer-like gesture, with the younger or lower-ranked person usually initiating the gesture. For foreigners and business, handshakes are acceptable.

    TEMPLE VISIT ETIQUETTE

Foreigners are always welcome in temples. However, it is important that a few simple rules of etiquette are followed:
    • Dress appropriately and act with the utmost respect when visiting Wats (pagodas) and other religious sites, including the temples of Angkor.
    • Do not wear shorts or tank tops and make sure your shoulders and knees are covered.
    • Remove your shoes and hat before going into a vihara (monastery).
    • If you sit down in front of the dais (the platform on which the Buddha’s are placed), sit with your feet to the side rather than in the lotus position.
    • Never point your finger or the soles of your feet towards a person or a figure of the Buddha.
    • A woman may accept something from a monk but should never touch a monk.
    • Show respect and turn off mobile phones, remove headphones, lower your voice and avoid in appropriate conversation.
Please note: The central tower of Angkor Wat is closed to visitors on Buddhist holidays.

    FOOD AND DRINK

It is not advisable to drink tap water in Cambodia. Bottled water is cheap and widely available.
Khmer cuisine, considered one of the healthiest in the world, has much in common with the food of neighbouring Thailand, although it is generally not as spicy. It is also similar to Vietnamese food, due to its shared colonial French history. The most well-known Cambodian dish is amok. Amok is a coconut based curry traditionally cooked with fish, however it is not uncommon to have it with chicken.

    PUBLIC HOLIDAYS

There are many religious public holidays in Cambodia. The main one is the Khmer New Year which takes place from 14 to 16 April every year. The celebrations usually go on for about a week. The second biggest is Pchum Ben. This national holiday was established for Buddhists to pay their respects to deceased relatives. It is also known as Ancestor’s Day, and usually celebrated in September or October.

    HELPFUL TIPS

    Donations and gift giving
    • Do not give money to people begging, especially children. This reinforces the belief that begging is an acceptable way to make a living. If children make money from begging, their parents are less likely to send them to school. Children working on the streets are also vulnerable to abuse.
    • Giving money and goods to beggars can accentuate an unequal relationship between locals and visitors, with tourists being seen as purely money givers.
    • Do not give sweets to children in villages that we visit.
    • Do not feel that you necessarily have to give material things. Sometimes, giving your friendship, time and interest to locals can be the best gift of all.
    • For more information go to www.thinkchildsafe.org
